If you're anything like me - you take on a lot, make sure it gets done, drop the ball once in a while and sleep very little.
This time last year, I was working 90 hours a week, sleeping a few hours a night, shower and back to work. My own lack of self respect prevented me from seeing my relationships crumble around me. I even refused to hear my managers telling me to go home after 8 hours. It didn't matter - work was my drug of choice. The thrill of productivity and getting stuff done... I can still taste it.
I burnt myself out within a year. I spent the next 8 weeks after my burnout sleeping 16 hours a day. During the other 8 hours, I was napping, laying on my couch or catching up with friends that thought I had disappeared for good.
But then something amazing happened. I utilized the tools that I had learned over the years. This included things like the 7 habits of highly effective people, muscle testing and intuition. I started listening to my body and what it needed. I looked for reasons to be happy and feel fulfilled. Within a very short time, I was beginning to recover from my burnout. I was able to assess how I felt, make plans to change it and move forward in a positive direction.
